State guides
LLC guides for all fifty states
Forming an LLC is a state transaction, and no two states price it or police it the same way. This is the full index: every state's formation guide, with the filing fee the state actually charges, grouped by region and alphabetical inside each region.
Every state hub follows the same pattern, so you can compare states honestly: the filing steps in order, the full cost picture for year one and every year after, and the recurring deadlines that keep the LLC alive. The fee beside each state below is the state's own filing fee for the formation document, read on the state's official site and checked on November 8, 2026. It is the starting point, not the whole bill. Some states add an annual tax or a report fee that dwarfs the filing fee, which is exactly what each state's cost page totals up. If you already know your state, skip the browsing and run the LLC cost calculator: it totals year one and every year after, with an optional registered agent, for all fifty states.

The filing fee is the smallest part of the decision. A $50 state with an $800 annual tax costs more over five years than a $300 state with no recurring charge at all. The cost calculator puts any two states side by side on year-one and recurring totals, and forming in another state explains why forming somewhere you do not operate usually costs more, not less. Forming in the District of Columbia or a U.S. territory instead? The eight formation steps still work; read the fee itself on the official filing site, because we only publish fees we have verified, and those jurisdictions have not had the check yet.
