Tailor Brands vs. ZenBusiness

The strangest result in our comparison set: two different companies, two different products, and the exact same $995 five-year cost on the entry path. What differs is what the paid tiers buy. Prices checked November 8, 2026.

How This Page Makes Money, Honestly

LLCForming is funded by affiliate commissions. Right now the provider links on this page are plain links and we earn nothing when you click them. As affiliate partnerships are approved, links will be swapped for tracked ones and this note will be updated. Prices below come from each provider's own pricing page, checked November 8, 2026. Full disclosure.

The short answer

On the entry path with agent service, these two are tied to the dollar: $0 to start, a $199 a year agent add-on that is never included, $995 over five years. The choice is therefore about the paid tiers. Tailor Brands' Essential ($199/yr) bundles an operating agreement and annual compliance filing with brand-shop extras on Elite; ZenBusiness's Pro ($199/yr) bundles the EIN, an operating agreement template, and ongoing filing compliance. Choose Tailor Brands if you were going to buy branding anyway, ZenBusiness if compliance help is the point, and neither's paid tier if all you need is the LLC.

The cost table

Path, state fees excludedYear oneFive years
Tailor Brands Lite, with agent service$199$995
ZenBusiness Starter, with agent service$199$995
Tailor Brands Essential, with agent service$398$1,990
ZenBusiness Pro, with agent service$398$1,990
Tailor Brands Elite, with agent service$448$2,240
ZenBusiness Premium, with agent service$498$2,490

Five-year figures are our arithmetic from the published prices: entry paths are $0 plus five years of agent at $199; the $199/yr tiers add five years of the tier itself ($995) on top of the same agent math; Elite and Premium substitute their own tier prices.

Where Tailor Brands genuinely wins

The bundle a brand-new consumer business actually wants. A founder who needs a logo, a domain, and a basic web presence this month can see Elite as those purchases with an LLC attached, and Essential's annual compliance filing covers the recurring report without a second vendor. Its entry tier is also more honest about speed: Lite's 14 business days is printed on the pricing page, slow but stated.

Where ZenBusiness wins

Compliance as a discipline rather than a feature line. Pro's ongoing filing compliance, the Advanced Compliance Protection tier above it, and per-report filing at $100 make ZenBusiness the more serious tool for an owner whose real risk is a missed deadline in a punishing state. ZenBusiness also includes the EIN from Pro, where Tailor Brands charges $99 for it at every tier, a fee nobody should ever pay, since the IRS issues EINs free (see our EIN guide). And ZenBusiness Premium, while pricier than Elite, buys monitoring and amendment coverage rather than logos.

The tie itself is the finding: both companies land on the same numbers because both are subscription businesses renting the same two things, an agent at $199 a year and a mid tier at $199 a year. If neither the branding nor the compliance layer is worth $199 a year to you, the cheaper answers are in our Northwest vs. Bizee comparison, where five years with an agent cost $539 to $596.

Who should pick which

Common questions

How can two competitors cost exactly the same over five years?

Because the repeating lines match: a $199 a year agent add-on at both, and a $199 a year middle tier at both. The entry formation is $0 at both. Identical inputs, identical totals; the products differ in what the tiers bundle, not in what they charge.

Which paid tier is better value, Essential or Pro?

They cost the same and split on one item: the EIN. ZenBusiness Pro includes it; Tailor Brands charges $99 for it separately, a fee worth declining everywhere. Essential answers with annual compliance filing and a brand toolkit trajectory. If you will file your own EIN free in minutes, the two are even.

Does Tailor Brands Lite include compliance alerts?

Tailor Brands says both things: a services article credits Lite with free compliance alerts, while its pricing page crosses annual compliance out for Lite and includes it from Essential. We treat the pricing page as controlling and credit Lite with no compliance features.

Is either one the cheapest way to form with an agent?

No. Both total $995 over five years with agent service. Northwest totals $539 and Bizee $596 for the same combination, which is why this comparison ends by pointing at that one.
